Is it just me or do you think it is inappropriate to make the poppy all pretty and sparkly like some of the TV celebrities and some of the TV shows like strictly come dancing.

They have been bought like that from companies who contribute a shamefully small amount of the purchase price to the British Legion.
No, I don't think it's inappropriate. More money should be donated though.
as long as the money given goes to the appropriate good causes it doesnt pose a problem...
I'm slightly torn by this to be honest, I think the most important thing is to remember the fact the millions of men and women died during times of war, if sparkly poppies make it easier for small children etc to become involved in that and hopefully not repeat our mistakes then I'm all for it, I do think however that it's somewhat reprehensible to be cashing in to such a huge extent on it, perhaps the British Legion needs to consider selling poppies for children next year themselves.
They sell some of them through the British legion shop I want one of the push pin ones for next year but would still drop odd change in the normal tins
I bought my sparkly Poppy brooch from the British Legion.
"do you think it is inappropriate to make the poppy all pretty and sparkly"

no
I've ordered a "sparkly" one from the official poppy (British Legion) site.. a bit late as it's nto arrived yet, but it's more than I would usually donate. I'll probably wear it in future, but will still donate each year.

I get through so many lost, broken and crumpled paper ones!
no,
Actually, I do, yes.
But better a sparkly spangly poppy in true remembrance, than no poppy or respect at all.
no poppy = no respect ?
The British Legion think it's OK, so who would argue? They do a Muslim poppy, apparently - really! Also Sikh & Jewish.
I have a push pin one from last year - mine is plain, but they seem to have the year on this time. I still put a couple of quid in the box.

I think there was a thread about this before?
No ankou - I didn't mean no poppy = no respect. I mean I like to see people wearing standard poppies out of respect. Or not wearing a poppy, but having respect. If you get my meaning....
well, maybe. but you said you object to sparkly poppies, but that wearing a sparkly poppy is better than no poppy at all ?
I've blinged mine and wear the same one every year although I do put money in the box aswell.
can't quite see how blingy poppies are supposed to remind anyone of the bloodbath of the Somme, but to each his own I suppose.
i have bought so many this time, first one fell apart, but have bought the paper ones, when passing the soldiers, who have been doing the collecting outside the station.
