Well that's it then ~ now is the time when we are open for invasion, we ain't got an army on our shores, they are all off fighting someone else's war, we have no aircraft to defend our shores, Nimrod aircraft all been scrapped along with The Harrier Jet, no sailors to put into moth-balled ships, no aircraft carriers, these also been scrapped. If this government thinks in time of strife all our youngsters of today will take up arms to defend this country they are living in Cloud Cuckoo Land. Thank goodness I am in my eighties and aint got long to go in this life, our wonderful government have reduced my pension, they have taken away part of my heating allowance, up has gone the price of food and commodities, when I pass away my family will not be able to bury me as the cost of a funeral has escalated, still they haven't left any dead person on top YET.

Why have they taken your heating allowance Laman..?
Reduced your pension, why?
are you the one wot got bit by a monkey on holiday ?
They've reduced the heating allowance to £200 from £250. He did say 'part'.
I only ever got £200 anyway - who gets £250, was it age-related?
Who exactly are you expecting is going to Invade us?

I don't think the Iranians have quiet got enough landing craft that will make it through the Suez Canal and out of the Mediteranian?

The French perhaps?
That what one gets for voting Conservative. The Labour Party would never have cut pensioners heating allowances.
I actually think that the youngsters would take up arms against an invader..Especially if it were a country that has no welfare system. If they didn't fight they may well have to start working for a living..
I ask again

Who's about to invade the UK?

Are we still expecting Russian tanks to pour accross Germany, France and build forge across the channel?

Since the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago our armed forces have had absolutely nothing to do with defending the UK from invasion and everything to do with throwing our weight about in other people's countries.

There are no Iranian Navel ships in the Channel but plenty of RN ships in the Persian Gulf.

We need to spend our money at home, not satisfying the desire of overgrown schoolboys to play soldiers overseas or Politicians to feel internationally important.

Presumably then Steve you're trying to leave?

I mean I wouldn't expect you to be someone who'd just sit about moaning about things he didn't like - I mean that's not the great British get up and go spirit is it?

Where are you off to then?
over 80's get £400, winter fuel allowance, not sure whether that's for all, but i know a number who get it.
Actually, jake, nobody has to invade by force. Our membership of the EU and our ludicrous immigration policies will achieve by stealth what countless would-be invaders have failed to do by force throughout the centuries.

The UK government cannot determine who does and does not come here. Once here they are free to plunder our wealth via the benefits system. They have to be housed at public expense if they have nowhere to live. They are free to commit serious crimes and cannot be removed after they have served (half of) their sentence. With the exodus of people from the UK seeking to retain as much of their hard-earned as possible, and the higher birth rate enjoyed by immigrants, eventually the incomers and their descendants will be able to outvote the original population and the “invasion” will be complete.
Well I don't think Vulcans and Harriers will help us much then NJ - do you?
All political parties are much the same. They may want to enact different unwelcome policies, but in the end they all just have to wait their turn to inflict their favourites. And why would one be looking to leave unless one has found a Utopia out there somewhere? The grass only looks greener, until you get to try it. Know that you're damned if you never get out, probably damned if you do. It's being so cheerful that keeps us going.
"The government cannot determine who does and does not come here. Once here they are free to plunder our wealth"

I imagine that's how a lot of Indians felt during the time of the British Raj. The difference of course is that they didn't sign up to it voluntarily.
And what's that got to do with the price of fish, rojash?

I don't think we've time or space to go into the relative pros and cons of the British adventure on the sub-continent. But I think the main point of difference between that and what we're talking about here is that I believe it is widely held, even among critics of the Raj, that the area improved considerably during the ninety years of British rule. Time will tell whether the UK enjoys a similar improvement.

And I don't know too many people in the UK who "voluntarily signed up" to seeing their country open its doors and its bank accounts to all and sundry.
Just remember what Gadaffi said three years ago. The Muslim Brotherhood will overrun Europe within the next 20-30 years, especially after Turkey is admitted to the E.U.!

I think Lama may be from a third world country and is not speaking about the UK.
