I bought my daughter a Barbie DVD on Saturday - usually I skip the trailers (probably a topic for another thread, but film trailers on a DVD that I have purchased is a pet peeve of mine), but when I tried to skip them I couldn't.

So, in addition to having adverts on a bought DVD, now they can't be skipped.

Is this common/new, or is it likely to be a problem with the disc? The player is fine as I could skip on a different disc.

Some dvd's don't let you skip the adverts, They just put one track on the disk so you can't skip it, Try fast forward button if you have one to go past them all.
It's a common occurrence these days unfortunately; occasionally the next title button works and sometimes title search helps* but a lot of the time one is stuck with them.

* the main feature is title 1 quite often but trying another number can take you to one of the extras from which another button press takes you back directly to the main menu. Doesn't always work, though.
I ave a few with adverts for, say, maltesers on them and they can't be skipped either. Another good reason to download...
They are hard locked into the play sequence on the disc (which is quite complicated code)
You would have to re-rip the DVD and strip the unwanted ads, warnings, etc.
Doesn't work very often though .. but worth trying.
