I remember as a kid in the 70s these adverts use to appear warning about the dangers of playing with matches, talking to strangers (Charlie says...).

The worst was the kid whose frisbee lands on a pylon,  so he sensibly goes to retrieve it and promptly gets 10.000 volts through him. Nice. I didn't go near a pylon after that though.

Anyone else remember such ads?

I remember them!  There was one where a group of kids was pushing a boat and the mast touched the overhead cables.

I live near a large sub-station and as a kid I was petrified of the place.  I suppose that means the adverts worked!

Yeah, you can take a trip down memory lane by going to http://www.tv-ark.org.uk/  As a father of two I think it would be a good idea to show more public service films, especially with the amount of nonce's and weirdo's roaming Britains streets !
Bring back Charly!! :O)

Never play on building sites - a one I remember being shown in school. Classic 70s stuff and, even for a 10 year old, cheesy as hell. You could spot the accidents a mile off, and probably so could the actors & children in those situations. I think there was a child who climbed into a cement mixer or something, or maybe I'm making this up overexaggerating how stupid they thought we were. Mind you, riding a cement mixer could be fun...

Im having flash backs of them now. The good old public safety adverts. I certainly remember the pylon / frisbee one! Also the orange austin 1100 that turns over when he mixed his radial and crossply tyres! Silly man.

Course I remember them!  I always found them slightly spooky, I think it was the animation.  And even those who don't actually remember them might now be familiar with them thanks to both the endless retro-reminiscing TV shows and the Prodigy's 'Charlie Says' record.

You can get them and dozens more on a DVD called "CHARLEY SAYS... THE BEST PUBLIC INFORMATION FILMS IN THE WORLD"

I think I'm right in saying Kenny Everett did Charley's voice.

Cheers CORBYLOON, I'm so sad my may even consider purchasing it!

I never knew it was Kenny Everett

That's a fantastic link pjm, hours of fun to be had there !!!

I remember one about railway lines. It showed closeups of the connections, bakalite insulators and so on.

Also, Alvin Stardust looked a wee bit out of place taking kids across the road.
