Is it considered the done thing to continue 'hosting' a thread that you started ?

I get lazy sometimes after I've started one and don't keep up with the responses.
I've often read back over old ones and seen some great responses but assumed it's too late to say anything - especially to responses way back in the thread.
I hope I haven't p1ssed anyone off by doing this, I do appreciate people's input even if I didn't acknowledge it at the time.

Your word thread is a good example - you started a good one and explained you would be back. It did not require your attention 24/7 and we are still posting on it. Stand easy Roy x
I try to to acknowledge people who're still responding to my original post but the nature of CB is that, like a good pub conversation, discussions here can suddenly 'veer off on a tangent '. At that stage I consider that my duty has been done!

Anyway, AP, I've always thought of you as one of the most pleasant and considerate people around here. (I was going to include 'sane' in that sentence, but then I remembered that a certain level of insanity is essential around here anyway!).

I've done this too AP - sometimes I post before going to bed and forget I've done it, or sometimes it's just a video clip and I don't really feel there's much else I can say - but I always feel bad if I haven't responded. Or if I do pitch in but don't reply to each and every answer. I'm never sure what's expected...
I always try to keep up with at thread that i've started but sometimes it's late and I have to leave it for the all-nighters. I haven't noticed you doing that AP, but there are some and I find it a bit annoying especially if it is supposed to be a serious medical or relationship thread.

I spose so - I will pop into that one now and then, if nothing more than to try and keep it going :-)
Ooh, the Doc's back!

Any winnings tonight, Doc?
(See what I mean about threads going off at a tangent, AP?)
;-)
I always try to respond if people have answered, especially if its asking for help of any kind in another section, rather than just a 'chatterbank' type thread. Problem with chatterbank threads is that they so quickly go off the page, whereas others tend to linger longer so its easier to remember to acknowledge answers.
Would it be better if a thread kept reverting back to the top each time someone answered?

Whoops ! Sorry, that response was for Ena.
Thanks Chris, that's nice of you to say so.
I was just reading back over my post about photography in derelict buildings and noted that a couple of people had made the effort to post some really amazing photos/info and it got a bit late to respond.
I know what it's like when the boot is on the other hoof, especially if someone has asked something fairly technical or obscure that I've felt qualified to answer then there is no comeback - it makes me want to post something sarky like "not at all, don't mention it" !
I shall endeavour not to make people feel that way towards me :-)
Answerprancer, docspock and all folks, I sometimes feel bad about not responding to people - particularly when I've asked for an answer to something. But it's not always possible, is it? Sometimes we can't catch up as soon as we expect. It's not intentionally rude, and I don't think most people on here would see it as such.

Wouldn't it be nice if, every time you signed into AB, you were first directed to a page reading something like "Welcome swedeheart. You have 5 unviewed replies on 2 different questions"... specifying which ones, of course, and linking to them. I suggested this a couple of years ago, in Suggs. Should be easily implemented should it not?
aahh..that's where you are...no probs ..we all know how it is !!
I tend to avoid creating threads unless I have to, I am quite a poor responder.
I think if you have asked for advice and you don't say thanks to folk who took the trouble to reply then you are being bad mannered. IMO.
swedeheart, you are probably aware that if you want the kind of response you are asking for you must click on 'Subscribe' & then you will be notified when there is an answer.Ron.♥
...oh and if memory serves I once had a thread in Suggs entitled Hang Them High. It concerned people who don't say thanks here on AB;)
I regularly get bored of my own posts. But then I am extremely self centered and only stay interested if the post continues to be solely about me.
Hi whiskeyron. Yup, I know. But that's not very practical is it. Subscribing to every thread of your own. Your in-tray will be flooded. When I ask a question, I keep going back to it for three or four days or so, but some questions attract replies months later - and I only find out YEARS later...
