Popping over to Pakistan and announcing that Britain is "responsible for many of the world’s historic problems, including the conflict in Kashmir between India and Pakistan"

The ill-advised ramblings of a man who shouldn't be allowed near a live microphone, or are there grains of truth in his statement?

Of course there are grains of truth.
The 'Partition of India' is entirely responsible for most of the present conflict.
Whether or not there would be a different sort of conflict taking place between Muslims and Hindus in an India left untouched by Britain, is a moot point.
Did he call this tour:

“My Violent Torpedo of Truth: Defeat is Not an Option.” ?

Does he have Tiger Blood? Adonis DNA?

If not, then he probably isn't! Although he does seem able to say reasonably stupid things from time to time.

Spare
We had nothing to do with the partition of India, I believe Mountbatten was against it, but was forced by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The other alternative would have been for Britain to become involved in a civil war in India.
That's quite right, AOG.
Nothing to do with us............at all.
I mean it's not as if we had been 'ruling' India for any...........er.........no.........hang on...........

I'm no Empire apologist, but I do find the level of willfull distortion of it quite annoying. The British did implement the partition, but they'd been working against it for several years because they knew the kind of problems it would cause. The idea for partition and the consistent demand and support for it did not come from the British.
It would seem that some on AB have indeed got the Prime Minister they deserve.

He also seems content to cry down the British at every occasion.

/// David Cameron sparked a backlash last night after telling a Pakistani audience that Britain is responsible for ‘many’ of the world’s problems.///

I wonder if his words will come back to haunt him, when the dust has settled in Libya?
Don't be afraid to use the Daily Mail link sp1814, they give more detail to support your question.

Signing away £650m.
Britain raped and pillaged the world worse than vikings on sper strength lager.
The thing with chickens is they do come home to roost.

If charlie sheen was being honest i could see the connection.Sorry sp1814 but its tenuous at best, and at worst factually inaccurate and misleading.
Had it not been for the Russian Revolution of 1905 they would be under Russian Rule. Ghandi & Nehru were against partition of India but Jinna pleaded to British for an independant state, that Mountbatten agreed & drew up.

Is it too much to expect a graduate from Cambridge aka DC to know basic history.
tambo....OXFORD.........Oxford.
cripes sqad.....Cambridge must have got a bung to lose the boat race

More or less, what I said.
Yes..........yes..........well done, AOG........we've made a note of the fact that you said it first.
Now run along, there's a good chap.
Links AOG - not opinions.....edicate the masses is wot its all abaht

Why all the sarcasm? there is no need for it, I was only pointing it out that the post you lampooned, was indeed correct, and which was also verified by tamborine, who for some reason also seemed adverse to my opinion.

Why can't some just learn to be civil?
It's all about the legacy. We're working hard to make sure Posh Dave goes down in history as a healer of rifts and a bag carrier for his US employer.
AOG I was responding to OP.....I often forget to read all other posts - sorry.
I didn't lampoon any post.
Whatever the rights or wrongs of partition, or quite who called for what...........the fact is that India had been 'The jewel in the crown' for Britain for the preceding 150 years and therefore *of course* we were instrumental in any subsequent conflict.

Hmmm...my point is - shouldn't Our Davey run hese statements pass his advisors before grabbing the microphone?

Perhaps something along the lines of:

"We understand that, in the past, some of our decisions which were made in good faith, have resulted in conflicts from which we are now all suffering..."

Says pretty much the same thing but with ballet slippers, rather than hobnailed boots?
