Could it have been Freddie Starr? Rings a bell. I also seem to remember someone doing a Celine Dion skit of the Titanic song and her arms getting longer too.

Parents are asking, they say it was in the 70s and the guy was singing something like 'You Need Arms'. He was maybe wearing a tuxedo and Dad couldn't make out what was so funny at first and thought 'there's something weird about that guy'. Not much to go on I'm afraid, no direct response from Google yet.
I remember it too. I seem to recall him singing something like The Skye Boat Song, and actually started "rowing" with the arm extensions at one point...
It wasn't Max Bygraves "You need hands", was it?
^^ I could just imagine perhaps he sang it on something like the Morecambe and Wise show, and the arms got longer..... I'm sure I remember seeing the arms growing, but I can't remember for certain who it was!
I saw "The Fourmost" do it in the 60's while singing "With These Hands" at a Nightclub.
i remember a send up of Peters and Lee , who used to come on stage holding hands
and the person playing diane lee moved away while still holding hands . the song must have been "welcome home"
It was Freddie Starr 'impersonating' Billy Fury.........not sure which song, though.
