the case went to court and the person was given a custodial setence. What I need to know is if I have a right to obtain the case file under the freedom of information act or something, any ideas?

3 Months imprisonment for shoplifting a £10 pair of jeans...

Son still employed but no hours at present. What can he do?

No. FoI only covers public data and a CPS file is exempt as it will contain witness details and other personal information which could lead to vigilantism
