It was a tricky situation when the mother of my child was pregnant she left me 4 months into the pregnancy, and told me the only reason she was with me was to have another child so she did not have to work and be supported by me and the farther to her older daughter. She went away and stopped me from seing my son and i was hunting for him for about 2 years could not find were she had gone and then she moved back to the town and then next minute i know i get a phone call from CSA requesting money ! Now i have had full contact with him for the past 2 years and everything is great except a phew things she trys to rock the boat alot between me and my new partner.

Now during the first two years i didn't know when he was born or were and was not present during signing of the legal documents. I have asked her for his Birth certificate several times to open a child saving account which i have 6k ready to go in for when he is 18. But she rufuses to show me or hand it over to do so, this is raisin concern to why and also more i think about it there is nothing to say i am his father and i have no legal rights ! (not that a father has any so i have been told)

So what i want to know is how do i get on the birth certificate ?

Any help would be gratefully received

thank you

DNA...

You can get a copy of birth cert for £10 I think. My Mum went and got my sons for me...public records.
Naz....stop doing that. I keep thinking you're linking to something interesting :-((
You have to go to the register office that covers the hospital where he was born , it will cost you £9.25, you only need his full name and date of birth.
see this for your legal choices:

A DNA test will be needed for you to apply for a parental judement in court, then you can re-register the birth, see my link
ace, picking cat2 up tomorrow (snow permitting)
so jay you needed to read this bit on the link:

Following a Court issued ‘Declaration of Parentage’

When a court in England or Wales issues a Declaration of Parentage, a birth can be re-registered to show the findings of the court.

A copy of the declaration is sent directly to the General Register Office for the birth to be re-registered. You do not need to do anything.

To find out how to apply for a Declaration of Parentage, contact a solicitor or the Chief Clerk at your local Magistrates or County Court.

Hi Dotty,

Thank you for the link very helpful, been googling for hours trying to find something but all i could find was information for mothers about these things and nothing for fathers. I can tell you read some pretty angry mails on site of women slagging of men.

Any ways reading that link looks strait forward, but i fear that she is going to be very difficult about all this.

So would it be best to go to a solicitor ?
Can she stop me from doing it ?

Sorry for asking so much i am just scared she is going to do a bunk again and i am not going to be able to do anything about it.

Thanks for any help

Jay
If you set things in motion by downloading the form on that link, fill in what you know, then if you follow the instructions it may well be that you will not need to ask her for help at this stage. Do you know where the child may have been born?
Question Author
Hi Dotty,

I have downloaded the link and found my local office, i dont know were he is born she will not talk about it.

Basicly at moment when i pick him up he gets handed to me at door and when dropping him off taken off me and door shut in my face. She wont talk to me about anything unless its money and thats it.

I am over the moon he is in my life and i can see him but i am just scared i am going to loose him again and trying to find advice because as it stands there is nothing to say i am his father and she could stop me from seing him again and i cant do anything so i want to try and get it down i am his father. Sorry if i keep reapeting my self but i am just loosing so much sleep over all this and making me ill.

How old is he? Where do you think she was living when he was born?
Question Author
Hi Dotty,

He is 4 coming up for 5 in july, all i can figure out is some were in the midlands around there.

You need to apply for a Declaration of Parentage under S55A of the Family Law Act 1986. Initially that involves little more than filling in a form and handing over the £130 application fee. The matter will then be listed to be heard by a court. At that stage you'd be extremely wise to get proper legal representation or, at the very least, the support of Families Need Fathers. (Note their helpline number. You're likely to need it):

oh if he had been born in 2005 I could have found his birth now as the national index is available on ancestry up to 2005. You can still apply for his certificate if you know his birth name and birthday, here: It will be £9.25
https://www.gro.gov.u...ertificates/Login.asp
register and then follow the process for adding the known details.
I can't help you like the others, photo but I want you to know how sorry I am and hope you get your wish. Sounds to me as if you are a good father and should be accepted as such.
good link Chris x
