My son was beaten and punched without reason some 2 years back by a drunk man on a football coach He made no complaint a the time, and just put it down to idiots will be idiots which is how I brought him up. Last weekend this same person taunted, and taunted my son and his girlfriend after his team were beaten in a local Derby. Following this, he took a swing at my son and a scuffle broke out. This man was then knocked to the ground with one hit from my son. Following this my son was arrested for GBH with intent, by at least 8 policemen, handcuffed and kept in a cell overnight. When they spoke to him the day after the police realising he was a decent person, and was only doing what anyone would do in an extreme case of provocation. Let him go without charge. My son has never been in trouble in his life before!
I asked a police lady in the station why he had been arrested and she said they were acting on information given at the time.
The video from the pub shows this man taking a swing at my son and provoking my son.
And the landlord also backs up my sons story.
Obviously the police took witness statements, names etc. So it seems obvious that the witness statements were wrong! Will the police now arrest the people giving false and inaccurate statements?
Thanks in advance.

very unlikely, Witnesses weren't in the same position as the camera no doubt and are basically human Perhaps they only saw the end when your son nearly knocked him out? Perhaps they only saw the beginning and the end? Was there sound on the video? Perhaps the witnesses were in a noisy environment and didn't hear everything either.
Nothing more will come of it, i'm sure so your son would be better just thinking about what he's done, what a lucky escape he's had, and how to be a calmer better person in future

Thanks for the information. Yea I guess this could be so regarding witness statements. I am so annoyed that the police do a knee jerk reaction before getting proper evidence
As for making my son a better calmer person. I am sorry, but having my face punched and girlfriend taunted would make me want to smack him one! And I have never hit anyone in my life. However all I can assume is that this person just wanted to be punched carrying on the way he did. I have since heard that this guy is well known for his trouble, and been thrown out of pubs for it. My wife has also spoken to a good friend who is a magistrate and she has advised that my son could use the defence of extreme provocation! She also suggests nothing will come of it.
From what I can see, the clown who started this can hardly string two words together, so I guess when he is interviewed by the police they may figure this out and possibly see sense eventually.
i'm really glad your son was seen for the good person he is but there are other things to do if someone is intimidating you = walk away?
What would have happened if he had hit his head going down and fractured his skull or died? ok you would have the stisfaction of knowing your son is a good person but he would be in prison for manslaughter!
