My husband, brother in law and father in law are on bail awaiting charges for GBH my heads spinning can someone give me some advice? Basis story is: Xmas eve all out early to aviod the idiots to have a family xmas tipple, my friend was playing darts and shes quite good and she kept neating a group of lads, one of them took offence and called her names, my brother in law stuck up for her, and it got out of hand, my father in law spend a good ten minutes trying to clam the lad down who was trying to now kill my brother in law (dads 63 by the way and 9 stone wet!) my husband then tried to clam the lad down who then tried to head but my brother in law, my husband stupidly slapped the lad, the lad then kept telling my husband he was going to kill him, we deciced to leave and just get out, went to the next pub to call a taxi as there were none in the rank, and the lad and his friends had followed us, we had ordered a drink when we spotted them, but to keep the peace left to go to antoehr pub and get a cab from there, they followed us again and run up to mu husband and punched him in the head and knocked him off his feet, then the lad tried to kick my husband in the head, and brither in law rugby tackled him to the ground, the lad went mad and tired to attached my 63 year old father in law, my husband tried to get the lad off my father in law (his friends were all cheering the lad on) it was all pushing and shoving I called the police and the guy was alying on the floor kicking a brick wall in, by this time there was a crowd of his friends and I just got everyone out of there and we all went home as I had giving the police details over the phone and just wanted to get the hell out of the situation. My husband, brother in law and father in law were arrested two days later and are now on bail pending charges of GBH, the guy has sadly broken his leg, however I saw him kicking out at a wall when we left him.

you don't really say what advice you want. However, i presume thety have a lawyer?
My advice would be for them to take professional legal advice rather than unpaid advice from people who only have an outline of the circumstances
just plead not guilty, if what you say is true it aint GBH, end of.
Exactly as stated. The police taking CPS advice on possible charges is standard practice and your relatives would be on bail, pending any further enquiries and the CPS reaching a decision. It may be that they'll advise no charges or some other charge e.g a public order offence or charging some or all of the others involved but not your relatives. Who knows ?

Thanks all, yes we have got a very good solictor. As I was the only one who witnessed him damage his leg the investigating officer said my statement would be biased as this is my family I've harranged the police so much that the police are now putting out a press release asking for more witnesses to come forward. Also the CPS wont go any further untill the initial medical report is provided, which no one can find at the moment, so this can drag on. Will keep you all posted. It's just good to dicuss with people who dont know me!
Best of luck with the situation.
