This riverside town with a Roman fort and amphitheatre claims to be the oldest in its country. A legendary wizard is said to have been born in a cave close by, and its Norman castle was sacked by a famously revolting prince. The coast and estuaries offer walks, great beaches and the preserved home of a hard-drinking poet. Name the town.

I thought it was somewhere in Wales - possibly Laugharne, Caernarfon or Carmarthen but can't get all the clues to fit - so maybe completely wrong. Can anybody help?

Think this is Carmarthen and shire! Merlin and Dylan Thomas were born and/ or lived hereabouts. Which is being featured on The Antiques Roadshow as I write!!"!!!!
The revolting Prince may have been Llywelyn The Great by the way!

Many thanks BertieButton. I was going round in circles with this one.
It was Llewelyn the Great who did the sacking, but the castle and everything else are at Laugharne.
