Formal caution or misdemeanor? (Boston, MA law)
Yesterday, I was out at night (around 9:30 pm) with three friends and we went to the beach. We decided to make smores over a self-contained fire, in a small metal bucket. The fire was away from vegetation, and considering it's winter time here, there was a decent amount of ice and snow around us.
A cop came (we weren't sure whether he was Boston police or state trooper because it was too dark to even see his badge) and proceeded to ask for our IDs and reprimand us. Not only that, but after taking our IDs to his car and later giving it back, he said that our names were "entered into the system" and that we were no longer allowed at that specific beach.
My question is, when a police officer says that "your name has been entered into the system," what exactly does that imply? Is that a misdemeanor or a formal caution? Will we also now have a criminal record and can that be appealed?

This is obviously in the USA, and USA and UK law, and hoe incidents are recorded are very different.
This is difficult for me to answer bu (because you are in the USA)t, if you were not arrested, and you did not admit guilt to anything, then you should be fine.
In the UK, the ways you can onto the system, meaning the Police national computer are to either get arrested, convicted, cautioned, reprimanded, or warned.Or you can receive a certain type of penalty notice.
What did the policeman, or who ever he was, do to you? Did he ask you to sign anything or arrest you? Did he ask you to admit guilt to anything?
If you were not arrested and you have not admitted guilt to anything then it is highly likely you will not posess a criminal record.
