is it true that if you are over 14 and are accompanied by a meal you can have one alcoholic drink in a resturant with that meal.
or is it over 16?

Young people aged 16 or 17 can drink beer, wine or cider with a meal if it is bought by an adult and they are accompanied by an adult. It is illegal for this age group to drink spirits in pubs even with a meal.

You can give kids alcoholic drinks at home from the age
I didn't mean to press submit then. I went back to read Chucks thread before I answered.

It's legal to give a child 5 upwards alcohol at home.

I presume most people don't.

It is not uncommon in Europe though for parents to give children watered down wine with their meal.
