We have lived in our house since Aug 2001 and on the front (which is a shared access) was a gate that had been there for years (belongs to us). Our charming next door neighbour moved in (3 years ago) and decided about 4 months ago that he was going to have the walls on his side rebuilt. SInce then he has removed our gate and promised that he would put it back asap. The hinges are on 'his side' of the entrance and always have been. He has had the original hinges set back in 'his side' of the gateway. Due to us having dogs it is imperative that this gate is replaced so as to make the front of the house secure (from the road) . It is now 3 months + later and he still has our gate and shows no sign of putting it back on - he has since taken down his front porch and replaced windows on the front etc - so the gate is not obviously high on his list of priorities. Can anyone tell me where we stand please? He is a very arrogant abusive neighbour by the way.

why not ask him if he would mind if you organised for the gate to be re-hung? I know that you probably feel you shouldn't have to but it would save a lot of bother. We have the same problem with our drive but ours is shared costs for maintenance so maybe you could have got off lightly with not having to pay for the wall to be rebuilt. Hope you get this sorted amicably as fall outs with neighbours tend to be lifelong
