Just saw channel 5 news .
A vicar in wales with 56,000 child porn pictures going back 30 years , some taken by him .He was thevillage vicar and on the school board.
Hes been jailed for 3 and a half years.
And acording to the channel 5 news , the church has
suspended him !!!!!

That's what I'm asking though.It said tonight on channel 5 news he�s been suspended from the church.

the church is holding a disiplinary panel hearing. Seems reasonable enough to consider the matter themselves before deciding what to do with him; he won't be going anywhere in the meantime.
The photos he took himself were just of kids swimming - naked apparently; I can understand the subjects of them feeling shocked, but they haven't been abused.

Well that is true - it can and does happen in every profession, in every class of society.
If the Church has no reason to suspect this behaviour in any of its clergy, what is to do?
Don't forget vicars are subject to CRB checks as they have contact with children and vulnerable adults and if they are clear what do you suggest is done?
How the photos were brought to the attention of the police, I don't know.
The vicar's wife was also charged, but let off with a caution. That to me is very wrong - she obviously knew about it as she was cautioned, so admitted guilt. She had it in her power to put a stop to it and chose not to.

Ethel i know they suspended him before hes now convicted and sent to jail.

So; he took photos of children in various circumstances. Did he abuse these children to any extent? Many people, especially parents, take pictures of naked babies. A Pulitzer winning photo from the Vietnam war featured a naked young girl escaping from a napalm attack on her village........was it pornographic? Perhaps the fact that he is a 'man of the cloth' is fuelling this hysteria
Legend, I am not saying that what he is accused of doing is acceptable. I am asking what did he actually do wrong? He had, it seems, in his possession photographs of young children of such a description that most 'normal' people would not have. However, I ask again, did he actually, physically in any way abuse these children? I really do think that we are all becoming a tad neurotic. It seems that nowadays you can't even take photos of your own children acting in a school play!
