i have just sold my old car to a scrap dealer as it was an mot failure but it still had 2 months road tax on it. i have also bought another car but no tax on it. can i transfer it to my new car as the tax price is the same. i read somewhere that a court concluded that because the prevoius car had been scrapped and the price of the disc was the same for both cars there was no fraud or tax evasion so they gave a not guilty verdict.

so far as I understand you can't transfer a tax disc. you can get a refund on remaining whole months, but that's your lot.
the tax disc relates to one vehicle, and you can't assume it's validity for another.

is this the same one you've been cabbing in? do you even have an MOT??
You cannot display a tax disc from one car in another.

There is an offence 'failing to display a valid tax disc' - even if the vehicle is taxed and you inadvertently put the wrong tax disc in you would be guilty of this offence.

The vehicle has no tax and cannot be on the public highway until it has got road tax.

Buy a tax disc tomorrow and send the other one back for a refund.
Read the back of the tax disc - the conditions for a refund of duty are plainly printed and ends with the following:

"NON-TRANSFERABLE BETWEEN VEHICLES"
You can only get a refund on complete months, so don't hang about
you are the gay taxi tout.
Aren't you registered disabled, with the blue badge?

Surely your tax is free?
