I used to always wash my whites in the washing machine with a bit of bleach in the powder with it. My mum just thinks that would ruin the machine but when i was once getting my machine serviced i asked the engineer if that was alright what i was doing and he said yeah it wouldnt damage the machine in any way!! My ex and myself used to have to wear very thick white uniforms for work and the bleach thing did just the trick. Me and my mum do things completely different from each other!! Does anyone else do this??

I sometimes put a drop in when I'm doing my whites and no harm had been done to the machine. I always run an empty cycle afterwards though just in case I get yellow bleach sploges on my next wash!
I wouldn't have thought it harmed your machine. But it will weaken the clothes. I overbleached something once and it literally disintegrated.
Sometimes when you put the bleach in, it does not always rinse out.
So when you put your next load in, and say it is a dark load, the bleach will ruin the clothes!!
Actually - seems you should do this from time to time

Also - bleach clothes wash liquid is very common in the US.
Add some soda crystals to your wash.

Works a treat with net curtains.

Using bleach will shorten the machines life, over time the parts will slowly corrode, especially rubber and plaggy parts.
