does anybody know if it is compulsory for a firm to give days in lieu owing for bank holidays during maternity leave? I've been on maternity leave throughout 4 bank holidays so do i get 4 days back? i usually work full time mon-fri. My boss was unsure so she looked on the net and it said no, but i'm not so sure. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is bizarre notion. You are being paid 90% of your normal pay during your maternity leave and you want yet more money for the public holidays? No way.
Whilst on and duirng OML you acrue holidays as per your contract. For eg, if your annual holiday leave gives you BH's as extra days off then you will conitue to be awarded these holidays as o, if they are included within your annual leave then no, you will not get anything extra for them

During AML you will accrue holiday under the Working Time Regulations which is 20 days per year I believe and can either include or exclude BH's.

Actually, I think its more than 20 days now, and don;t forget that what ever you decide you must take all your holiday by the years end what ever that is set out by your employer

to buildersmate, can i ask that you understand a question before you post an extremely inaccurate reply.
Firstly, if you read my question properly you will noice that i say 'days in lieu' which means extra days i accrue. Secondly, maternity pay is 90% of your wages for the first 6 weeks the rest is statuatory maternity pay which is FAR from 90% of my usual wages. Thirdly, i get the impression you think maternity leave is an excuse for an extended holiday- well believe me its not, infact its harder work than i have ever known. Fourthly, i presume you are not a parent because you have missed the whole point of my question, and that is, i am asking if i am entiltled to any extra days because any extra time i can have with my baby before i have to return to work is a bonus.
Can i ask that you absorb and understand a question before you answer it.
On the other hand, pink-kittens your answers have been extremely helpful. Thank you.
Whoa, calm down!

pink-kittens reply is correct, all annual leave and bank holidays will accrue during the first 26 weeks. After that, the employer can decide whether to allow additional holidays apart from the statutory leave to be accrued, but it would need to be spelt out in your contract if they were to be different to your normal entitlement. You would, presumably, know if this was the case by reading your contract so under these circumstances I would assume that you would continue to accrue during AML.
Pink.kittens seems to have answer for everything.. Shame he has to leave aload of silly and childish remarks on my thread.
Something must be eating him or her.
Post any questions pink kittens i might be able to leave some abuse for you like you done for me.
