A girlfriend of mine works behind the bar in a local pub. The landlord's ( not sure of his status - landlord / tenant/ manager etc..) wife was in the bar drunk and for absolutely no reason attacked my girlfriend causing her physical injury. She is vey shaken up by the incident and has of course reported this to the police. She would like to know whether she can claim compensation from the pub/ brewery ( i.e whoever owns the business) as they should have a duty of care towards he re her safety at work. It really was a totally unprovoked attack, quite beyond belief.

She can not claim off the brewery or the pub.

She may sue the person individuallythrough the civil, but this will cost her a fortune with no guarentee of a return.

If the police (moreover the CPS) take her to court, she can seek compensation via the court. But this will only be upon conviction and the courts discretion.

Then there is the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, who are a discretionary body awarding victims of crime.
Thats not what you expect from the landlords wife, You have done the right thing in reporting it to the police, by all means report it to the brewery as well, they have to investigate it , You can take this as far as you like , but the advice above is good, is it worth the hassle??she needs reprimanding by the police and by her husband, he could lose his licence if there are people being assaulted in his pub,
i would ask him to pay you up generously in exchange for leaving without a fuss......
I presume the victim will not be returning to her job ?....if not, could she not take her employers to a tribunal claiming constructive dismissal ?
