Is it right that BT charge for cancellation of a contract after a few days. I thought there was a cooling off period?
I paid the installation charge of 124.99, now they want a cancellation charge of 185.00, and I'm not happy !!

No the actual cancellation fee is 320.95 & not 185.00!!

I opted for another co. to supply broadband after a few days of getting a phone line installed. Therefore, I contacted them to cancel.

Someone please help. Is there anyway I get out of paying this??
so youre cancelling the phone line or the broadband with BT?

i think you'll find you have 14 days to let them know by letter that you want to cancel, and if you didnt give them that notice and still cancel it they will charge you for the amount of whatever you pay each month for the rest of the contract, im pretty sure of this but not 100% i did have link to the T's & C's but cant find it now!
How long was it after paying for the service that you decided you didn't want it?

Looking at BT's website, they have a minimum term for a contract and as you have decided to cancel, they will be making you pay for the full amount of that contract. Without knowing what you signed up for, it's impossible to say.

If it was broadband, it seems that they will charge you the full 12 or 18months of the contract plus the cost of the BT Homehub.
Thought this type of thing was covered by distance selling regulations in which case you have seven days to cancel without any charges?
