I have fallen behind with my car payments and I am supposed to pay today but can't. What will the loan company do? Do they just come and take the car or do they have to apply to the court? They have said if I don't pay today they will take action.

Did you buy the car on HP or with a personal loan?

It makes all the difference.

We got it through a car financing company so it would be HP?
Call them, explain that you are having difficulties paying, try and arrange an amount that you can pay in order to stop any arrears. Most HP firms are sympathetic these days and as long as you are willing to pay something they are quite flexible, but get inb touch with them ASAP

I phoned them on Monday and they asked me to pay 190 and I said I would call them back today but I can't pay it. At present we only have my Husbands wages coming in but I am starting a new full time job in November so once I start getting paid we will be able to start paying again but what do I do in the meantime? We are about 2 months behind.
As I said, get in touch with them and explain the situation, if you have been regular payers without any payment lapses in the past, chances are they will be sympathetic, they may even defer your next installment until your salary comes through. It will mean that you pay extra in interest, but it should stop any action they intend to take, but, please getin touch with them ASAP
Good luck

Thanks very much. I have contacted them and they said that we are OK for this month but will have to pay next month when I get my first wage.

Thanks again for your advice.
