I put this question in the business section first, but I need to ask it here as well.

If I have a lodger (a friend who has just split up with his girlfriend) who wants to have his own business telephone line installed on my property, are there any legal pitfalls that I need to know about with this? He is a sole trader, but he has to rely on his mobile phone for customers to ring him.

Hasn't he got premises and/or a mobile?

If it has to be done in your name I would say don't do it.

He doesn't have premises. He's having to keep all his tools and gear in my garage. I never thought about whether the phone line would be in either his name or my name. It's an interesting point. Someone has pointed out that the phone line may be a 12 month contract too.
