leaving a housing association house unoccupied for a while

Hi, does anybody know how long I might be able to leave my Housing association home for ( I would like to take my daughter out to Spain for maybe 3 months) without losing my tenancy?
it is not clear from my tenancy agreement how the law stands on an 'extended holiday. many thanks

I would think that as long as you pay your rent as normal it shouldn't be a problem.

as ethel says, what you do with your time is irrelevant as long as they are paid.

or were you suggesting you don't have to pay for 3 months?

if so, would you be prepared to let the house out for 3 months?

whether you are physically in the house or not is not the issue - all your belongings are so you must pay rent.

Not questioning my paying the rent, just don't want to break any tenacy rules by leaving my home for an extended time. My housing association would not consider me sub-letting or letting out my house privately - just nervous about leaving it empty for a few months and wondered if anyone had done similar.

I regularly have extended holidays - I have to inform my home insurance company and pay extra, as standard cover is only for 30 continuous days absence.


I also inform my local police and give them a contact address in case anything happens.

I suggest you go speak to the agent or landlord, ask them if it will be ok if you go away and pay your rent and just ask them to keep an eye on the property., I work in a letting agent and if tenants go away for more than 2 weeks they just tell us so we can keep an eye on things.
