Have put this in law as im not sure where to put it

i have just part exchanged for a new car from local garage, but they have not had the documents as yet delayed in post , they have assured me that it is ok to drive this car with no tax until the v5 comes through for a period of 14 days then they will tax it as part of the deal is this correct can I drive this car with out tax many thanks GypsyX

If the car does not have a current tax disc then it is an offence to drive it on the road. The 14 days grace to get the tax is a myth
if you get stopped with no tax,thepolice or dvla can impound the car and have it crushed,and a heavy fine,the dealer is talking crap.who has the v5,because he should have the v5c to pass to you.
The garage should have given you part of the vehicle log which you fill in your details, this is valid for I think 2 months, you can use this to get the vehicle tax.
