If a child has stated they wish to live with their father, and the mother has agreed to this would a temporary residence order be a way forward?? As niether can communicate without arguing at the moment????

That is my only guess
it depends on the age of the child and the situation. every situation is different. a temporary order sounds a good way to go. but it would be best if the parents involved could try mediation because they have to remember there is a child involved. and it will mess the childs head up if the parents cant share a civil word. whaever there problems the childs best interest should come first. i hope it gets worked out. my advice see a solicitor. hope that helps
