As employers we have someone who is constantly off sick and does it in daily doses, comes back a day or half a day or sometimes not even half a day and then goes home again. Can she be disciplined for this with a verbal warning? Today she came in, said nothing to anybody, then left a note on someones desk to say she had gone home! Can she be disciplined for this? Any news would be fantastic as everyone is really fed up.

This is a real problem as you must not seem to 'targetting' this particular individual if there is no proper procedures in place.
It makes sense to have proper procedures in place for reporting sick from home, and leaving early due to sickness.
If you don't have such procedures it will be difficult to discipline her.

Sadly, any measures will impact on ALL staff and should be managed properly, and it is going to take time.

The advice given here is very good, and following it (or an adaptation to suit your own company requirements) will protect you if you need to discipline this employee.

Thanks very much for info. Lets hope we can work something out with it.
My company have a policy where once you have already taken liberties, they then insist on a medical cert for every absence, even for just one day. Im not sure what triggers this requirement, but I do know of a few people that had had it imposed on them so I assume its all above board.
