speed cameras mobile sites- why ?

i got collared today doing 48mph in 40 mph zone by one of the stupid vans that sit with their back to you- most of the time at the bottom of a hill- sneaky or what ?
anyway- no doubt il have a letter , a �60 fine and 3 points,
anyway my question is,
im looking at the speed camera detectors- e.g the snoopers and the road angels--- just wondering which is the best one to get- obviously for the mobile sites- i need something that gives plenty of warning,
anywho, any body that uses them or has used them , or sells them- any opinions welcome.....

perhaps a little bit jealous of people like me with my superchipped bmw m3 evolution with 406bhp -
incidentally , 0-60 takes 4.3 seconds mate .
im the one that pulls up next to you at the lights and you look away coz your pathetic little car cant compare ,
and you spend the rest of the day wondering what youve done wrong with your life-
im 25 years old mate - and doing very well working for myself ,
how you like them apples?

As regular readers will know, pianoman, I try not to become involved in matters of opinion on AB. However, sometimes I cannot help myself and in your case I�ll gladly make an exception.
The attitude you seem to adopt when anybody has the temerity to suggest that your behaviour is perhaps not ideal � certainly as far as your driving goes � is breathtaking.
I�m glad at 25 you consider you have done well for yourself. It�s a pity you measure that success, in this instance, solely by the technical specification and performance of your car. Still, I�m sure there are other measures of your astonishing success that you haven�t shared with us all.
To be so arrogant as to think that all that many other drivers have to do with their time is to wonder where they have gone wrong in their lives because they are not like you is quite astounding. It may not have occurred to you that those who do look away do so not because of their own inadequacies. It may be that they are looking for divine intervention to help them understand why it is you need 406bhp to drive anywhere in this small overcrowded country. Or maybe (and this is even more likely) they have about as much interest in you, your pathetic big car and your life as you obviously have in theirs.
I�m not suggesting you should not have the car of your choice. But you should not treat with contempt and derision those who do not share your taste and � more importantly � those who choose to obey the laws that you feel you have the right to ignore.
I wish you a long, happy and (even more) successful life, pianoman. But more importantly, I wish the same for all around you. Particularly those who are near you as you accelerate to 60mph in 4.3 seconds (probably in the most unsuitable circumstances) and plough along the country�s roads at 100mph plus, secure in the knowledge that your �Road Angel� (or whatever) will save you a small fine.

JudgeJ - very nicely put! I am 60, with a third-hand Astra and I, too, am awaiting a fine and penalty points for driving 37 mph in a 30 limit. I was definitely wrong to drive at such a speed and it is my fault for being intimidated by other drivers who 'tailgate' me because they don't like to drive behind 'an old lady driver'. If everyone drove at a reasonable speed (remember, the speed limit is what you're not supposed to EXCEED) then there would be no need for speed cameras.

simply that this thread has to do with, wait for it, motoring.
therefore my comments are valid,
for those of you who require information as to what i base my success on, here it is, judge for yourselves,
i own a nightclub in birmingham city centre,
two holidays a year
live in a luxury penthouse apartment
3 cars- one is my now infamous bmw m3,
one is a lotus caterham 7
one is a porsche 1976 911 yellow bird
before anybody asks- i have done all this myself- i have not won any prize nor do i have rich parents
it has all been earned by hard graft- mine and mine alone-
therefore it is something to be proud of as i was bought up in a large family, on a rough estate, by unemployed parents,
i am not boasting- simply replying to judge js request as to what i base my success on .

you have the single worse case of inferiority complex I've encountered in long time. The knob gab was a cheap shot, agree, but you had that coming. As a couple of people have pointed out, by the sounds of it you have done well for yourself, especially considering your humble beginnings. Ever thought that those humble beginnings were a blessing in disguise? It certainly seems to have given you the motivation to achieve what you have done to date....motivation and hard work (and talent, if your lucky). Time to put the chip down.
Just a thought, I would suggest trying to modify your approach somewhat...perhaps a little less aggressive? If you had engaged Gef in a civil conversation instead of attacking his opinion as 'wrong', I think you would have got a lot further in getting constructive feedback. Relax a little and be comfortable in knowing what you know, whilst acknowledging that everyone else will know something that you don't!

I got caught by a scamera doing 78 in a 70 mph....at 5am on a clear blue sky sunday morning in the middle of summer. I was the only car on the road....was it dangerous...no. Was it wreckless...no. Was I sorry...no. Was fuming....hell yes! When it comes to cars, I believe in self governance and responsible behaviour to others, not being dictated to ridiculous fixed laws and limits.
As far as your car goes, sound very tasty....but why not go forced induction instead of chipping it to within an inch of its life? There are many charger kits on the market to give you some decent bottom end torque whilst taking the HP comfortably into the 500+ area. Of course if your feeling brave there is always this conversion:

I�ll not get too bogged down in this debate because as I said earlier, I usually do not become involved in this kind of thread. However, here are a few examples of people whom, I think many people will agree, are far more successful than you�ll ever be:
1. The fire and rescue service personnel who cut people from wreckage following horrific pile-ups on our roads.
2. The ambulance crews who cart the victims off, often performing life-saving treatment on the move which keeps their patients alive until they reach hospital.
3. The A&E nurses who daily face the sight of people having suffered horrendous injuries in motor vehicle accidents. Remember, they have to stem their wounds, mop up their blood, vomit and other excretions, and generally, together with their colleagues, undertake action which often saves these victims lives.
4. The staff at remedial centres who cope with these same badly damaged people and help them back to some sort of normal life.
Few of these people can afford a penthouse, two holidays and three cars. But they all have more success in each day of their lives than you�ll probably have in all of the rest of yours. Just ask a few people this: �If one or the other had to become extinct, would you prefer it were Birmingham night club owners, or A&E nurses?�
By the way, don�t forget to tell your insurers that you are increasing the power of your car. I don�t particularly care if you are prosecuted for no insurance (and, after all, you can well afford the fine). But I would feel for any poor soul you shunt into when they find out your insurers have voided your policy because of your oversight.

They may, in your opinion make a greater moral contribution to society but I don't think that can be a direct measurement of someone's success. People generally work within roles which afford them some level of self satisfaction and fulfilment . I don't mean in a selfish way, but people who are lucky enough to enjoy helping others as a career, yet get paid a pittance for it...are still making a choice. It's their life choice to do that, and good on them. But that doesn't make anyone better or more successful than someone else doing a less 'morally advanced' job, in my book.
Give him a few years and if he's still quoting his income level in an debate / argument, you can say 'I told you so'!
