I am really panicking about this so any help would be gratefully appreciated. My husband has just been cautioned by the police for common assault, it is a 1st offence and he has a clean record. The police however have told him that they are going to inform his employer (the RAF). We are both really concerned about his job. I know they won't sack him or demote him but what would they be likely to do? He has always had an excellent conduct record etc and has never been in trouble at all before. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks xx

I dont know about the RAF but in the Navy you could talk to your Divisional Officer who would be able to help and put your mind at rest. I am sure the RAF would be understanding and sort it out with a fine. Good luck x

Youve probably already thought about this but make sure your husband goes to his employer first to explain so that they do not hear first from the police. sounds really odd though that the police are saying they will tell the RAF. what reasons did they give?
He would probably get a formal warning. Its basically a telling off! I am going back 14 years now but I think the RAF is probably more lenient today than it was back then - god I sound old!. Try not to worry too much about the RAF - the civil police have cautioned him and that hopefully will be the end of the matter. Hope it all turns out ok for you.
What business do the police have contacting anyone's employer?
