A direct debit that wasn't mine got taken from my account and caused me to incurr 140pounds worth of charges, Vodafone took this direct debit and admitted it giving me a refund.
I informed the bank but they said they couldn't refund the charges on my account.
Who is liable for the charges? The bank or Vodafone??

The bank is at fault, they should have checked the name on the DD mandate and ensured the name and number matched! Write to the bank manager of the branch and ask for a refund immediately.
just out of curiosity how can one direct debit incur
140 pound charges. why can't you just fill out an
indemnity form at your bank.
