Dreadful.

You cannot report it to the police as theft - the company is being properly put into administration because it cannot meet its obligations and pay its debts.

This site has all the information you need:

Send your claim to the address given as soon as possible - but only send copies, keep original paperwork.

It is unlikely that you will get all of your money back - but you may get something.
They appear to have used your money that should have been held ring-fenced as funding to run the business (pay business wages, expenses, that sort of thing). It isn't theft in the conventional sense, but it may be fraud. I hope you get most back. Good luck.
the only thing you can do is get hold of the recievers but dont build u your hopes to getting all your money back, cause the chances of that of Slim.

These company's P**s me off when they do this cause they ruin peoples Christmas's and lives, i know what i would, i would look up the Directors details and be knocking on his door.
Just an extra point, if you (or anyone else) paid at least some of the money on a credit card, then contact the credit card company as they will have some responsibility to help you. Realise this may be a long shot, but worth mentioning!

Credit cards have their plus points in this kind of situation, although you obviously need to take the debt issue into account when decided whether to use them or not to pay for things like this.
