Thats the point of a contract. You agree you are going to pay money for a service for a length of time. If you back out they are entitled to their money. As you say - what's the point of cancelling?
when you enter the agreement at the begining you are promising to pay all the monthly payments till the end of the contract. They hold you to this for 2 reasons
1) because its a contract
2) ususally they give you an expensive phone, so they make sure you are paying it all back to cover the cost of that
im afaid that is the norm with all networks, the best thing to do is move to their cheapest tarrif,if you can,and then just wait till it runs out,im in that position and i cant do anything till it runs its course, or pay it up.
remember this is a contract that also protects you, the company can not also cancell the contract befor the end. next time you might like to take a pay as you go option
