Anyone can lie to anyone else - you just say something that's not true.
I think you need to expand on your question so that we understand your dilema. As the previous said - anyone can lie to you so - the answer to your question is "Yes" a police officer can lie just as much as a train driver can.

yeah , sorry ok this is just an example , this hasnt actually happened.

Suppose a police officer is attempting to arrest you, and you say "it wasnt me , it was fred."

The police officer replies by saying :

"yes we know , we have had him arrested. But we still have to take you in too"

when he really hasnt been arrested and your just being arrested.

(remember this is an example so a general answer would be really helpful)

OK Wardy, I'm interested in this now because when I was arrested many moons ago the police lied persistantly to me during my "interview". Mind you , they kicked the ***** out of me as well so I suppose that would be the last of my troubles, but that is largely unproveable. I could however prove that they lied during the interview ( as they were very proveable blatant lies). Has this always been the case and is it the same legisaltion in Northern Ireland please?Cheers.

Thanks Wardy, I was guilty actually and went away for it and it was RUC that made the arrest.I assumed there'd be a carte blanche for them do whatever they liked. Thanks for the info.
In my expreience they make a habit of it.
