that name doesnt come up on search engines and the postcode only brings up british gas.
Are you sure you have it right
In fact the whole address is British gas. ttp://www.saltyweb.co.uk/saltyweb/details.php5?id=95894
Perhaps it is there own in-house solicitors?
Someone asked this last week and the number was given, also relating to British Gas, cant find the thread at the moment.
It is about question 21 on this site.
mmmmm this is an odd one...my suspicions are defo feeling twitchy

it was asked on saturday (well done oldwoman)
Horner & Co Solicitors are based in Cheshire. Run by Mrs Pamela Horner who is an employee of Centrica (British Gas). Her phone number is 0161 343 9347. The address on the letterheading for Horner & Co is somewhat incomplete and does not contain phone, fax or email contacts which is why everyone is searching for details. I contacted the Law Society 0207 242 1222 Records Office to find out this information. I have written to the Law Society, Regulation Unit, Victoria Court, 8 Dorma Place, Leamington Spa, CV32 5AE complaining about this unorthodox way of pursuing money.
thank you Raymond SMG. I have spent all p.m. trawling net and you have the answer! Excellent. Why would a solicitor not be listed?
I tried this number as I received a letter on 14th January 2008 dated 29th december 2007, telling me to pay withing 14 days of the date of their letter!!!! Still no contact details other than the address on the letter, I tried telephone number above and it was unobtainable!
Apparently it is part of British Gas and you have to call 0845 9444 200 now!
I have just been informed by The Law Society that Horner & Co have ceased to trade. Therefore, one can ignore any letters from this Company.
I have been receiving letters from Horner & Co (ie. British Gas) requesting payment when I have already paid. It seems that British Gas are in free fall - unable to keep proper accounting systems and unable to process payments on-line (the Company needs to sort itself out and to look after it's customers).
I have now switched to another Company after 25 years; I suggest you all do the same.
Can anyone advise me about Horner & Co and what is their power with regard to my supposed debt with British Gas. My MP has taken this further for me but BG simply ignore the fact that I do not consider I owe them any money. Is anyone aware of the fact that if an energy provider does not put in a bill for 12 months after a transfer they are not allowed to pursue a debt?
Just been given this free number. They are part of the cerntral recovery at BG

ALL real solicitor letters will have the full address and will have a DX number as part of it.

The DX numbers are internal mailing references that are used by solicitors to send mail via their own postal system.

If that number is not there its prob not real.
Horner and Co are NOT registered with the LSA and I have today raised a complaint via the Legal Complaints Service. This is another method British Gas use to intimidate and threaten, and they are in fact breaking the law. We became suspicious because the letter, headed up "Horner and Co Solicitors" was written in the exact same typeface used by British Gas. I strongly advise anyone who receives a letter from them to register a complaint with the Legal Complaints Service on 0845 608 6565 and switch providers immediately.
Following swilliamson99\'s statement, I also checked with the Law Society. They confirmed that Horner & Co is not registered with them, despite claiming to be on their letterhead, and told me to write to [email protected] attaching the letter. Further, British Gas when conacted could not find any details of them (0131 344 6135 senior complaints manager). Did anyone else receive threats of court action for money they do not owe (as a result of a \"well known computer glitch\") within14 days of the date of the letter? Did anyone else RECEIVE this letter 15 days AFTER the date on the letter? If so this is further evidence of the underhand workings of this firm. Please respond.
please note sharp practice continues new number as of this moment in time is 0161 489 9015
Interesting to read about British Gas and "Horner & Co".
A client of mine received a letter from "Horner & Co". I searched for a fax/phone number and then realised that this is not a firm of solicitors but an in house solicitor of British Gas!!! The headed paper said "Regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority". This does not appear to be the case and so I reported the matter to the Solicitors Regulation Authority to investigate.

TheVirus - Just because the Solicitor doesn't have a DX doesn't mean they are not legit. DX (Direct Exchange) is just an alternative for Royal Mail post, and virtually guarantees next day delivery.

It is not just Law Firms that use DX, but accountants, insurance companies, banks etc...
Pamela Jane Horner is a solicitor registered with the Law Society (number 154348). The telephone number shown on their records is 0845 9333200. I have not tried it but presume it is for British Gas.
I have also received a letter from Horner & Co solicitors. The letter does not have any law society number even though it states at the bottom of the letter that it is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority? The letter is misleading as it suggests that the law firm is separate when in fact Ms Horner is an employee of British Gas.
