Driving without due care and attention: Notification period?

10 days ago I was unfortunate enough to be involved in a traffic accided. Thankfully nobody was hurt - apart from some wounded pride on my behalf! The accident was entirely my fault, and the officer who attended said there was a very slight chance I'll be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention. If this was to be the case, I would recieve a letter from the magistrates court within a certain period. I cannot for the life of me remember how long this period is, can anybody help please?

The offence of careless driving requires a notice of intended prosecution to be sent within 14 days. However, this does not apply to a case arising from a road accident, although they are sometimes sent anyway. The time limit for proceedings to be started is 6 months from the date of the offence.

Blimey !! Nobody was hurt but a police officer attended ? Well, that's a first, did he just happen to be passing at the time ?
