My husband has just recieved notification of a fixed penalty speeding ticket for an alleged offence that took place 3rd March. I'm sure I've read that you have to be notified within 14 days of the alleged offence taking place. Does anyone have the definitive answer on where we stand legally?

Yep - they have 14 days to tell you, any longer and you get off. I know someone who this happened to (there was a six month gap in his case) and he got off despite the fact he was caught going nearly twice the speed limit! I think you just need to write them a letter.

Notice of intended prosecutions (NIP) are a bit iffy.

Was it a camera or roadside? If he has been "reported" by an officer there is no need for an NIP, or if he was in an accident.

It is 14 working days (therefore exclude weekends and bank holidays)

The six months is for a prosecution to be brought before a magistrates, different to an NIP (Old fashioned summary only offence)

By what you have said, he sounds fine.

my husband was caught doing 37mph in a 30 zone last saturday we had the notice on thursday!!! typical
