I've read the proposed 'Legisative and Regulatory Reform Bill', and my, (and i'm not alone), interpretation of what i've read, is that if its passed, ministers can just ignore Parliament, Parliament will become a nonety, there is a lot more, but i'll introduce it if its needed.

If anyone has any knowledge of this Bill, maybe you'd like to comment.

Where can I read it?

www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmbills/111/06111.1-4.html its prettry heavy going, but if you can, as you read it, read between the lines. Let me know what you think.

I'm no expert on these matters but everything written in Part 1 gives me the impression that the restrictions can be overuled, effectively giving the Prime Minister power absolute (as long as his own party agree with him, but let's face it, they will)

If this Bill goes through then I will seriously consider leaving the country.

In short, I agree with you, it does look as though we are walking into a dictatorship.

I told the anti-monarchists that this would happen !
Yes

If you really want to be scared then read the Civil Contingencies Bill. The basic premise of this Bill is that the Government can impose emergency measures on anything that they consider an emergency. Oncethis has been imposed, the relevent minister can virtually act as he wishes. Very frightening.

Please remove the </p> from the last URL. I don't know how it got there.
rogerthomas, the "p" appears at the end of a url if you don't add a space thereafter (particularly at the end of a post)
This sounds a lot like its along the same lines as the US patriot act and others, many people in the US seem to be having similar bad feelings feelings about the implied loss of civil liberties that this type of legislation will lead to, Some people have commented that these laws are the start of various governments putting into place means to control their populations when the chaos of oil/energy running out in the world starts to cause things like ''energy riots'' etc in the near future.

Thanks rogerthomas, put the two bills together, and we really have a frightening scenario for the future of this country, I think chimney's solution is well worth considering.
A public awareness crusade is the only way to go with this as most people don't know or are too stupid or brainwashed by their percieved threat of terrorism to realise exactly what's going on. Tony Blair and his cronies have to be exposed for what they are. Failing that I too will leave the country, because this is going to be no place to be living. It's awful.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it, if this Tessa Jowell and Ian Blair thing have been specially engineered as 'Red herrings', possibly not, but it does make you wonder.
Hi noxlumos, don't be silly, most modern societies are divided into a small part who take note of the world around them and who think for themselves, these people will already have some idea of what is happening anyway and a large part who only know what they are fed through the media and who would not know an original thought if it fell on them, who don't want to know about problems which may be approaching and will attack you as soon as you try to disturb their view of the world.
