I just don't understand life today at all......odd times in which we live.
If they don't want a religious marriage, then why not get married in a Registry Office, that's not religious is it?
if one doesn't want to get married......then don't......or are there disadvantages to not being officially married.
I am glad that my lifespan is coming to an end.

The reason they do not want a traditional marriage is because they do not accept the societal baggage that comes with traditional marriage (the whole patriarchical thing).
Abolishing civil partnerships for same-sex couples to end the discrimination could mean dissolving legal ties that unite 63,000 gay couples – a course of action that would trigger political furore and legal uncertainty.

LOL.....Bazile......I have a had a good run, done all the things that i have wanted to, achieved what i wanted and have difficulty in understanding the world of gays, transgender, sex and the danger and degradation in the world today. i have lived in the vicinity of the Kray Twins, practiced medicine when it was an art and not a list of conditions on a website.........so yes Bazile.......no regrets.

This does not alter the status and rights of those unmarried at all. They must still either marry or engage in a civil partnership to enjoy all the rights and privileges that go with it. Since civil partnerships and marriage are essentially identical in the rights and privileges they each provide and since both (in terms of both religious and non-religious versions) are now seemingly open to all couplings then one of the two is redundant.
I see the couple's point in that same-sex couples have a choice of either partnership whereas opposite sex couples don't. That should have been thought through when same-sex marriage was enabled. But you cannot expect the armies of civil servants and ministers dealing with these matters to be able to envisage such a consequential inequality arising from their plans. It's far too complicated for them.

Not at all. Civil partnerships undertaken under the previous legislation would still be recognised. Such partnerships would not become null and void. All that would happen is that no more CPs would be sanctioned.
Of course those together under a CP will immediately call "foul" because, no doubt, they will believe that people will consider their union "second class" or some such nonsense. But life's tough sometimes and we all have to pay for politicians' stupidity at some point in our lives.

That’s exactly how I see them. To me, they’re pretend marriages as they don’t have exactly the same rights as traditional unions.
The whole pension thing is the stand out difference...and also because CPs are not, and never have been marriages.
They are...other.
They ape the traditional marriage ceremony, but no number of ring exchanges, flower girls, stag/hen parties or honeymoons can disguise the fact that they are not really marriages.
