I'm pretty sure there isn't a specific law dealing with this. I'm supposing that you want to know what would happen in the event if an accident where a driver was distracted by such lights (?).

Not specifically, although I suppose that is worth thinking about. I absolutely love Christmas, and have thought about doing it before. They wouldn't be big bright lights, just very small multi coloured lights, battery operated.
It would depend on the colour and position. It's illegal for any light seen from the rear to be other than red. It's also illegal for any light to cause a distraction to you or other drivers.

Sounds like it's not worth taking the chance! Thanks both!
Why not run them along the floor and lower parts of seats. That way they shouldn't be a distraction and you can still enjoy some Christmas bling.
The rules on fairy lights in cars are governed by elf and safety regulations.
Nice one Douglas ...

Oh yes there is!

See Sections 11 & 13 of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989:

Trust you Chris. ;-). Well done.
When I used to commute around the M25 I often would see HGV's on the opposite carriageway which would appear to have blue fairy lights in the cab, generally around Christmas time. I think these were usually positioned behind the driver so that they would not be distracted by them while driving. Still dangerous IMHO!
You're okay as long as you are a Coca Cola driver..............
Saw my first Christmas coca cola advert last night. But we still have how many weeks to go?
