Accused By Employer, Is This Bullying? Is It A Union Matter

Recently I was accused by a manger of saying something derogatory about her. She had been told this by another person who was in our office at the time, The senior manager asked my line manager to ask me if I had said it. I was horrified and said no ( which I hadn't). to cut along story short the overall senior manage has spoken to the other two people involved and not me. I feel like I have not had a chance to put my side and that I was very upset by it all, that I had to take some annual leave. The manager who accused me spoke to me on the phone and I said no I did not say it, she then I have since learned said to the senor that I DID admit saying it, would the union get involved in this?

They certainly would - this is one person's word against another. Tell your union rep without delay.

If it's looking like you could be dismissed, I would consult your Union Rep.

no its not, but it has really upset me and I feel like my name has been tarnished. its no the first time this manger has done this she has to other people too..

Have you signed anything ? Like such and such is a report of our conversation ?

If Race Religion or Colour is involved definitely get the union in.

Clear this with your union rep BUT it is quite lawful for you to secretly tape these conversations. (all the laws are about third party recording). Only one side of a two sided conversation needs to know it is recorded and that would be you. If you have a techie in the family it may be a go-er.

You have had two conversations about it with a manager and this may later be taken or deemed to have been an investigation and also your chance to put your side.... so yes ring the union
Can I suggest - that while it's all fresh in your mind, you write it down NOW? It's sometimes hard to remember detailed conversations and timescales, a few weeks later. You can then show that document to your Union rep.
Just to add to Boxys reply, when and before you know you are coming into contact with this person, I presume you have a Mobile, If it has Voice Rec, Speak out the day / date / time & use it. Been there seen the video
from what you have said, you might even have a case for harassment here! as others have said, speak to the union now.

ah i am so grateful and impressed with all of the answers! You have all been helpful I didnt want to just be a pain to my union rep but on reflection, I am definitely going to seek advice first thing tomorrow....and yes writing a record down now ia great idea !!! Thank you all!
