My sky+HD box which is approximately 16 months old appears to have permanently failed. SKY want £65 to come out and restore my service. Do I have rights under the sale of goods and services act whereby I can require SKY to sort this with no cost to myself? Thanks in advance.

I'll be interested in the replies here, as i had a similar problem. According to Sky, the box is rented for the first year and then it's yours. They tried to charge me for a replacement.
I rang back and told them i was going to leave them as i was paying monthly for a service i couldn't get. They then sent an engineer round, who not only replaced the box for no charge, but upgraded it and replaced the cable. So may be worth a try.
I doubt it, most goods are only covered for a year aren't they?
That's always the way to go with Sky, tell them you've had a competitive quote from Virgin and you'll leave. From a legal standpoint though, I doubt you can force them to do anything.
You may wish to argue that the goods are not of satisfactory quality which they should be under the Sale of goods act 1979 as amended, you will be fobbed off to start with and will have to persevere even to taking court action if necessary. First I suggest you read the 79 and 94 acts and take legal advice if you intend to continue.
