2.7% of 16-24 year olds

and 4% or so didn't answer

So let's say by rule of thumb something like 3-5% of the country is Gay

that's up to 3 million voters.

The Tory party's language of 'familly values' and the like has make them look very unfriendly in the past to Gay voters

Cameron is trying to move that image around - the message is familly values means people in Gay relationships too.

Yes he's alienating some in the traditional wing of his party - It won't please the 'Colonel Barrington-Smythes' in the Country but they'll still probably vote for him anyway.


Maybe he thinks its the 'right thing to do' but when that coincides with electoral advantage - well that's a marriage made in heaven isn't it?

Yes, well if you read what the DM quotes him as saying you'll see that he thinks his "Bill team" should export the bill, help other jurisdictions in drafting their own laws. But the Daily Mail has to invent contention, doesn't it ? What would the readership do without being told of "outrage" or , here "risked controversy"? It is as though the DM thinks that the readers need to be told or encouraged what to think, and are incapable of judging a report for themselves.

3 million gay voters maybe, but they wont all be Tory or labour or liberal or whatever so the end result is probably minuscule. I would say he has a greater risk of alientating 'Mondeo Man' who, whilst he probably doesnt care one way or another on gay issues, will not be happy at the continuing harping on when the country is still in such a mess. DC needs to remember, 'Middle England giveth and middle England taketh' (And middle England is NOT 'right-on')

it doesn't tell people what to think, it informs, the same as any other media outlet, perhaps it might be a little too informative for some who would rather see certain matters swept under the carpet, because they don't fit in with their own agenda?

Perhaps the Daily Mail web site should also be a 'no,no' on answerbank in case it might indoctrinate others in the glories of free speech?

I just wonder if DC might like to concentrate on Britain and let other countries make their own decisions. I think ( not just this latest article ) that he has lost the plot. and I do wonder if we may see a new leader soon ?

The problem that Cameron may not have anticipated is that he wanted to show the country that the Tories were no longer 'the nasty party', by pushing through this very progressive piece of legislation.

Instead, what has become apparent is that the Conservatives are a lot less nasty than they were...but many of them are still fairly nasty...

while the legislation is admirable, Cameron didn't actually invent it and can hardly claim ownership of it. We're well behind Belgium and Canada and just ahead of Nepal... and Scotland.
