Thanks, the plastic ones don't seem to get that hot.

My kettle refused to switch on this morning so it's going to the kettle heaven, I need to get a new one in a hurry and not sure what one to get.

We bought a cheap plastic basic Tesco one a few years ago (about £9) and its been brilliant

Plastic ones tend not to get as hot as plastic is a poor conductor of heat.

One tip (born of long experience) - always buy the kettle from somewhere with a good "return if you don't like it" policy.

The number of current designs which either leak around the base after a few boils, or just don't pour neatly is irritatingly high.

Dave I agree, I think I've gone through 4 kettles in the last 5 years, I'll get one from Argos, they exchange/refund with no fuss.

a warning about plastic ones, some people find that the boiled water has an unpleasant taste and smell. I have returned two (good quality) plastic kettles for that reason

I've fortunately never found that woofy, but I did opt for a stainless steel one this time. It'd better last longer than the last few or I'm going back to a stove top kettle with a whistle!
