Silent International Calls In The Middle Of The Night!

I think this will have to be a rant rather than a question, because I don't think there is an answer.

In the past three weeks I have been woken up in the middle of the night by silent calls, the last one being 2.58am yesterday. According to my phone's 'caller display' they were all International calls.

Because they are overseas calls I know that the Telephone Preference Service, which I'm registered with can't help. I've also looked at 'Silent Guard', but again this organisation can't help when it comes to calls of this sort.

Is there an answer? I can't disconnect my phone at night because I'm a volunteer with Age Concern and there's a possibility of having to take an emergency call.

Is anybody else getting these pesky calls during the night?

i think they are automatically dialled calls from some call centre in another time zone, i know of nothing that can e done to stop these calls unless you buy an expensive type of call stopper

My new house phone can block numbers individually so thats what I have done
It can also been turned off or onto silent for certain hours -the phone in my bedroom is set to silent for between 23.00 and 08.00

For me it was the way to go
A lot of silent calls come from automatic dialling equipment in call centres, where more calls are made than there are operators available to handle them.

international calls can be blocked. if not on your phone your provider can do it.

No they won't. Well BT certainly won't; they continue to ignore requests for such a service. In the meantime, it costs about £100 to buy one of these:

I'm with Sky Talk and they are unable to block International calls.
Do you have a mobile as well, witsman? If you do, you could use the mobile number as the contact point for Age Concern queries and then turn your house phone off overnight

A good point factor-fiction, although it would mean the elderly having to get used to another number.

Plus the fact they'd have to dial ten numbers to get my mobile against the six they've now got used to.

........ sorry, that should be eleven numbers!
Well you dont need to spend £100!

My house phone cast £50, 2 extensions and can and does block international calls - you do it number by number

This one is £45 you can block all international calls, all withheld numbers or individually bar numbers you receive sales calls from.
We have used the international calls block facility and are putting individual numbers as we receive incoming unwanted calls.
