Housing Benefit needs to be capped - not all landlords in London are greedy, money grabbers.

No need to cut housing benefit any further, just introduce a law that puts a cap on the rent that landlord's can charge.

Housing benefit is already capped fgt.

It's a joke. I was talking to the old boy down the road last week (I call him Mr51) and he asked me how much the houses in our street are rented out for. When I told him the house next door to me was rented out for £800 a month he nearly had a heart attack!!
ummmm my daughter and her husband pay more than that but they don't claim HB as they both work full time. It's the rent in private sector that needs looking at or is this about the landlords that charge a lot because he knows the tenants get HB?
Soory I meant he/she in regards to landlords
I also meant sorry. not soory.
The tenants next door work so I assume they don't get HB.
I only pay £650 for a veritable mansion

Ha Ha bet you are one???
Sorry
to be fair a lot of landlords dont let to people on housing benefit so the cap wont make a difference. the rents need to be capped though, some are outrageous.
I get £1.10ph for 2working adults, 2kids & cat in a m'sette & garden and garage - in liquid equity of £100k. Hardly greedy ?
housing rents are a rip off, very few people can afford the rents in London, if and when the housing benefits get a lot less or are stopped, look to see a lot more people having to leave the capital, or end up on the streets.
Mentioned this before but landlords have been able to get away with charging high rents because the last administration made it so, now that is being changed by the current lot. I am sure those who own property are glad they do, seeing as how renting gives you nothing in the long run, certainly not security as we well know.
work this out for me, £900pm for property cost £250k. How long will it take to recoup my outlay ?

Are llords greedy ?
Ballpark figure 23 years not allowing for any maintenance or other costs incurred.
Works out at 23y at current rate - that aint greedy
landlords do not always keep their properties in a good condition, so you could be renting in substandard accommodation, and considering there is a lack of rent-able properties could well mean having to like it or lump it.
A friend had this problem, she couldn't move as not enough money to rent a better property, area, so had to make do. The landlord was hard to get hold of and rarely if ever maintained his property.
