I use Beconase nasal spray and i think it is fab....stops itchy eyes and sneezing.I totally recommend it.All chemists should sell it but i buy mine in Boots.

I hope this helps you.

you shouldn't take another antihistamine until the effects of the one a day have worn off, so at least 24 hours from when you took it.

Piriton is good I find but not if you drive as it makes you drowsy. you have to ask for it from behind the counter at the chemist.

I too found Clarityn to be no use. Latterly I used Cetrizine which is available over the counter. That seemed to work ok. Most anti-histamines are short-acting so as clarabel82 says give it a day before you take a new one. Piriton is one of the oldies but does make you a bit drowsy, so not good if you're a driver or use machinery at work.
Hi vausey. I too have suffered really badly this year. I started taking clarityn, but they didn't do anything. I've also used zirtec and piriton. But i find that Benadryl plus are the best for me. They work really quickly - they aren't like normal tablets where you are supposed to be taking them months beforehand, and they don't seem to make me drowsy. I'm also using beconase nose spray, and that's also good!!

I was using Clarytin, then Neoclarytin(not that I noticed any difference).  Both were the 5mg tablets.  I have now moved onto Loratadine 10mg and have found it to be doing the job thus far.

I think a lot of it is trial and error unutil you find one that suits.  I once used a Boots nasal spray and I was worse off, sneezing constantly!

Clarityn did nothing for me either.  Benadryl used to work but then they stopped too.  Piriton still do but as mentioned they do knock you out.  I take a Sudafed decongestant tablet at the same time and that counteracts the drowsiness, but you may be concerned about being too drugged up! (These things don't worry me.)  Flixonase nasal spray also works well for me but you do need to use it every day whether you have symptoms or not.

One of the best hayfever treatments i reccommend is cetirizine hydrochloride 10 mg, which are found in all of the following AllerTek, Benadryl One A Day, Piriteze Allergy, Zirtek Allergy, Zirtek Allergy Relief.

They are all non drowsy and immediate effects.

For those that see your own GP due to over the counter and Loratadine (Neo/clarytin) not working, try asking for levocetirizine dihydrochloride 5 mg, if you can't manage that, its trade name is 'Xyzal'. Most GPs will know what you mean!
