It remains on police records forever.

It remains on your driving licence for eleven years (from the date of the offence) and remains "active" (i.e. you are subject to harsher punishment if you commit a similar offence) for ten years (again, from the date of the offence).

thanks judge i had drink driving and failing to report an accident conviction no one was injured i recieved two year ban and £200 fine it was about 25 years ago, so you think im ok ?
Ok for what, peter?

ive just been offered a job and was told they would have to do a routine police check ?
you should still tell them....
if you state this past conviction at an interview (or when they fill in the CRB with you) it can be overlooked/explained if/when it's on the CRB paperwork ... but if you don't tell them there may be a problem, should it show up!

unless it is for a very 'moral' position like MP i think you will be ok anyway!

Unless the job is one that is not covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and provided you have no subsequent more recent convictions your D/D conviction need not be declared.
Only an enhanced CRB check would possibly show this conviction. Enhanced CRBs are only for jobs involving vulnerable adults or children. Or jobs like the police force.
