Working towards a work permit

I have a friend who was on a study permit here. He has now finished his degree now & he wants to start working here.  Does anyone know of companies that would be willing to take someone on to help them prove themselves? They would have the aim of getting them a work permit if they were happy with their work quality. I hope that makes sense.

being on a student visa will limit the hours you can work, he will need to swop it over to a work and travel visa if he's serious about employment.
