Should Category 'A' prisoners be allowed to marry, no matter what their sexual preferences may be?

/// a homosexual crook's mum wrote to inmate magazine Inside Time to get the go-ahead. ///

/// 'My son is currently held as a Category A prisoner and has expressed a wish to "marry" (in a civil ceremony) another male Category A prisoner who is in the same jail,' the concerned woman wrote. ///

I wonder where they will spend their honeymoon, in an 'Open Prison'?

Can Category A prisoners who are heterosexual marry?

If so, then I don't see what the objection is.

What exactly is your question?
Brings a whole new meaning to being 'Banged-up'
Why shouldn't gay prisoners be allowed to marry as well as straight ones and catagory A is pure misery, so deservous of that or not, I can't really see the harm.
Will they get a double cell?
//...category A is pure misery... //
- if you can't do the time, then don't do the crime, surely?
Q1 Yes
Q2 Back in their respective cells
My point was mushroom, that anyone who is allocated catagory A status already has a miserable life and is being punished in abundance, so why further punish them when after all something good coming into someone's life can alter everything, especially a person?
the point is heterosexual people are not in mixed jails, so this would appear to be unequal!
As category A prisoners include murderers, rapists, and firearm offenders they deserve all the misery they get.
They also include other groups craft, much as the world at large would like to assume everyone is a paedophile, rapist or serial killer, that's just not the case- catagory is allocated not just on your crime, but your likelihood of escape and several other variables.
I asked my daughter who is a prison officer, once married they are sent to seperate prisons.
Would it matter which one of them dropped the soap ?.
I believe, but you may correct me if I'm wrong, that category A prisoners are deemed a danger to the public if they escape, and include some, who in my lifetime, would have been hanged.
agreed nox - sorry didn't grasp your point initially.

but i'm not sure why this is news - the prison order referred to in the article was issued in its present form in 2007, and may have existed prior to that.
Nevertheless, their right to marry and have a family is covered by (blue touch paper fizzing) Article 12 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Just Oh dear!!

With you on this one NOX. Being locked up in a Cat A prison is punishment in itself. Should we rely deny people any human compassion when they are being punished for a crime.

And as has been said. They will be separated and in different prisons if they marry. What would be the problem.
If heterosexual prisoners are allowed to marry, then so should gay ones.

However, as the straight prisoners are not allowed to have their spouses close by to 'comfort' them........I see no reason why gay ones should benefit from the 'proximity' of their spouses, either.
Craft that is generally percieved to be true, however you will also find that a lot of student political protestors are held as cat A's, especially if there has been a lot of violence at rallies they have been involved with. It's by no means a cut and dried thing that a cat A prisoner is a danger to anyone at all, they've just got sufficiently up the nose of the Govt.
AOG, Why are you constantly finding news items about Gay people?
Maybe it's a Freudian slip Lottie ;-)
