can anyone point me towards a site which hopefully will provide info on this new hassle we face at work. in short it affects the maximum amount of time we can work, and consequentially the potential earnings. it does'nt look good from my point of view.

Its best to call The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) National helpline on

08457 47 47 47

They can help with all queries on time off, holidays, hours etc

They do have a website too http://www.acas.org.uk/

If you want to work longer hours, you can opt out of this directive. It's there to protect your rights, ie to stop your firm exploiting you and making you work 80 hrs per week, but if you wish to forfeit your rights to earn more overtime you can.

this gives you some info, but I'm sure that if you search for 'Working Time Directive Opt Out' in google you'll get more info.

This link could be useful: http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/work_time_regs/

It takes you to the department of trade and industry's official site. There's a useful summary of the rights under the working time directive.

If you are in the lorry driving business, try getting hold of a copy of Commercial Motor who are covering this weekly.
